Sussex: News on the route

Check Before You Travel

Please check before travelling this Christmas. Engineering works are taking place across the network - passengers can check their journeys by visiting the National Rail website.
Lewes to Newhaven

The Lewes to Newhaven 4-day closure was completed at the end of November and passengers are seeing the benefits of this major upgrade programme this week  replacing the signalling system on the route from Lewes to Seaford, via Newhaven, replacing a system controlled from three signal boxes dating back to 1879.

Barnham to Havant

A 9-day line closure between Barnham and Havant took place in late October. This was a multi-million pound investment in track replacement and work at several level crossings. This is to ensure reliability for passengers and to improve performance of services across this part of the network.

Gatwick Airport Development

Our upgrade plans will help reduce delays caused by congestion and overcrowding on platforms, while also improving passenger experience by providing easier connections with airport terminals and onward travel destinations.

Work will be begin in May 2020 and will finish in 2022. You can read more here about the development.

Wishing you all Seasons Greetings and a healthy and happy 2020,

Southern region projects team
