New ‘one stop shop’ for NHS testing brings care closer to home for Purley residents

Residents in the south of the borough now have easier access to essential health services thanks to the opening of a brand new Community Diagnostic Centre at Purley War Memorial Hospital.

The expansion of these NHS services comes as a result of a significant investment in the local health system, and promises to make vital tests and screenings more readily available within the community.

As a result, patients living in the area who have been referred for diagnostic testing such as x-rays, CT scans, cardiology and respiratory screening can now access care even closer to home.

11 Haydn Avenue CR8 4AG

Planning Application No. 23/04771/FUL

Erection of 2 no. three bed semi-detached dwelling houses and 2 no. two bed semi-detached dwelling houses. Associated access driveway, parking, and hard and soft landscaping

The Hartley and District Residents’ Association (HADRA) advises you that a planning application has been submitted to Croydon Council, proposing to build four semi-detached houses to accommodate 20 people in the rear garden of 11 Haydn Avenue. Although this scheme is a reduction in size to the 6 terraced houses proposed under planning application No. 21/02996/FUL which was refused by Croydon Council and the planning inspector, this back land development is still considered an over development of the site.

Details of this planning application and can be seen on Croydon Council’s Public Access Register https://publicaccess3.croydon.gov.uk/online-applications/ where you can view the documents submitted. You can make online objections or comments on this application by […]

Croydon Council to Consult on Library Service

A new strategy for Croydon’s library service has been released ahead of a Cabinet Meeting on 31st January, for consultation over the next few weeks.

After months of research and consultation with user groups and staff, the new proposals offer a revitalised service with greater outreach. The new model provides a strong core offer for residents of all ages with libraries open five or six days per week – including provision of books & Wi-Fi alongside reading, digital, cultural and health programmes. By operating from fewer buildings our libraries can become true community hubs. No job losses are proposed.

Many residents will know and have experienced the reduced library service since the bankruptcy, with some libraries open as little as two days a week. The strategy pursued by the previous Labour Administration was to continually “salami-slice” opening […]

Services at Purley Hospital GP Hub and Minor Injury Unit

The GP Hub / Minor Injury Unit at Purley Hospital opens 365 days a year, 12 hours a day (8am to 8pm). This is very useful to ensure people can see a GP very quickly if their own one is busy, or get a minor injury fixed without needing to go all the way to A&E in Croydon town centre.  There has however been some confusion about what the GP Hub / MIU does and does not do.  A definitive list on the services on offer is below. (There are also other services at Purley Hospital besides the GP Hub / MIU, such as the new elective care operating theatres, blood tests, X Rays, diagnostics, a Moorfield Eye Clinic and many more besides).

Purley Pool Consultation

Polaska, the long leaseholder of the Purley Pool site, has announced plans for a complete redevelopment of the area, to include two new pools, leisure centre, cafe and public realm, to accompany about 245 flats which will form a new “integrated retirement community”.

The next stage of the consultation process is on Thursday, 9 November at Christ Church Purley, and all are invited to attend the workshop. The aim is to update residents on the progress of the design and seek feedback on design details, such as materiality.

There will be two workshops covering the same topic on Thursday 9th November at Christ Church in Purley at 859-887 Brighton Road, CR8 2BN. The first workshop slot will run between 4pm and 5:30pm and the second between 6pm and 7:30pm.

To register your interest in attending one of these workshops, please sign up via the project […]

A22 Godstone Road Closure

The following information comes from Councillor Gayle Gander:

Update 20th July 2023

I’d like to thanks Riddlesdown Residents Association for working with Southern Rail and providing the following brief: Southern Railway have advised and to assist during these works and resulting road closure, that bus passengers for the 412 and 407, can on request between 9 pm and 5 am, ask for access from the Southern team, to use the Purley station subway, to go between the front and rear entrances (west and east side). This can be done by speaking to staff direct, or using the assistance call point. Southern also advise the disabled can use this route at all times, upon request to staff. When staff are not there, for example elsewhere on the station, the gates will be in the open position. The local Southern team will keep this under review […]

82 Hartley Down, Purley CR8 4EB

Planning Application No. 23/00442/HSE

Enlargement of the existing rear dormer to the main roof including recessed balcony.

18 May 2023

This planning application is to remove the unauthorised balcony to the rear dormer and construct a smaller balcony.

An enforcement notice was finally issued on 20/4/23 to remove the second floor (loft room) projecting platform from roof dormer and obscured glass screen, because the first floor and second floor terrace and screening would be detrimental to the amenities of the occupiers of 80 and 84 Hartley Down resulting in an unacceptable loss of privacy.

Planning Application 22/02324/CONR was finally refused on 5/5/23. In this application the householder had accepted that he must remove the balcony to the “loft floor” and install the metal balustrades in accordance with the planning consent. It is therefore very disappointing that he is now applying to have a smaller […]
